Wind farms generate around two-thirds of their annual output during winter. This makes wind power a key addition to other energy sources that primarily supply energy during summer – even in Switzerland, which is not prone to excessive wind due to its topography. In spite of this, since 1996, together with its three partners, BKW has been operating the largest wind farm in Switzerland – JUVENT in the Bernese Jura. Some 20% of the electricity produced by BKW comes from wind energy. Over 25 years, wind farms produce around 40 times the amount of electricity required for their construction, operation and disposal – and all with very limited space requirements.
